The University of Miami’s longest running publication, The Ibis Yearbook, is entering its 98th year. The fully student run publication made its debut in 1927 and has been published annually ever since. It serves as a historical record for the university, providing visual documentation of events each academic year. The yearbook has evolved tremendously from a simple black and white 200 page book, to a vibrantly designed 400-450 page keepsake. The book is currently divided into six sections, highlighting content from lifestyles, academics, sports, Greeks, organizations, and of course our students. A new book is printed every fall, documenting events from the previous year. Alumni may receive this yearbook, through the mail, free of charge the fall after they graduate.
Our current Ibis Yearbook team has a total of 47 staff members. On the base level we have our general staffers: Photographers, Designers, and Copywriters. They are the heart of the book as they create about 85% of our content. Next, we have our Section Editors. Their role is to ensure that their sections are running smoothly and all spreads are being completed in a timely manner. They also help with the completion of spreads and gathering of content as needed. Following our editors, is our editorial staff. This consists of our Managing Editor, Office Manager, Design Director, Copy Chief, Head Photographer, Marketing Director, Social Media Coordinator, and Webmaster. These positions are for staffers who want larger responsibilities within the Ibis, or are very skilled in their respective fields. Lastly, we have our Editor-in-Chief and Faculty Advisor. Editor-in-Chief, Carolina Camus, leads the staff in producing unique content through innovative design. All work is overseen by our Faculty Advisor Randy Stano, who has been with the university for over 35 years and has advised the Ibis since 2001.
The Ibis holds membership in Columbia Scholastic Press Association, Associated Collegiate Press, and College Media Association. Our latest yearbook, the 2022 edition, was awarded over 20 individual awards, as well as a Gold Crown from CSPA and Pacemaker Finalist from ACP.
